Beth STEPHENS & Annie SPRINKLE

A two-person artist unit by Beth STEPHENS, American artist, professor, and Department Chair and Professor of Art at UC Santa Cruz, and Annie SPRINKLE, a long time feminist filmmaker and sex educator who earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Human Sexuality. They established a new area of study referred to as “Sexecology,” which studies how sexology and ecology (a discipline that studies the interaction between organisms and the environment) serve to affect culture, art, theory, practice, and behaviorism. Describing themselves as “Ecosexual artists,” they actively implement projects and engage in collaborations with various individuals and groups. They were official artists in documenta 14 (2017) where they premiered their film, "Water Makes Us Wet" (2017), had a visual art exhibit, and gave Ecosex Walking Tours.
