PROJECT

I can speak - From Imagining by the Window, to Standing atop the Cape

Oct. 17, 2020 - Nov. 15, 2020

Annex Sight:Open Call Curator Project "I can speak" Exhibition

As one of the art projects of “Saitama Triennale 2020”, we will hold an exhibition curated by Manami Totsuka, who was selected through an open call organized by the “Saitama Triennale 2020” with the aim of “fostering human resources to be responsible for the creation and dissemination of Saitama's culture”.
In this exhibition, we present the works of five emerging artists, focusing on the basic activities of “living in the world” within Saitama as a city of everyday life, while delving into the historical and cultural background of the land of Saitama.
Initially, the Saitama Triennale 2020 was scheduled to be held in early March 2020, but it was postponed due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection, and this exhibition is rarely time-leaped from spring to autumn. I had a great experience.
In this exhibition, as one means of art that responds to "society," we will examine multiple techniques for imagining and exploring the future by facing the ideal state of society and the fundamental activities of human beings. I will continue. It may be a hint to survive the day-to-day and unseen eras of the ongoing corona wreckage.

Highlight of this exhibition

This is an exhibition of contemporary art by five artists, mainly young artists, who reconsider "living" based on research on the historical and cultural background of Saitama City.

Opportunity to introduce new talents and new expressions

Based on contemporary art, we will announce new works by five artists, mainly young artists, using various expression methods such as poetry, sound installations, video works, and three-dimensional works. Please take this opportunity to take a look at the new works created by contemporary artists who live "now and here" in line with this exhibition.

Look at Saitama from a new perspective! Exhibition at the former Omiya Library

The exhibiting artists will present new values as contemporary art works, inspired by research on the cultural background and history of Saitama City, based on themes that they are interested in. The venue, the library, was once loved by many people. In front of the venue, there is the approach to Omiya Hikawa Shrine, where eternal trees are enshrined. It is an exhibition that makes use of the location that allows you to dynamically overlook the changes in topography and time, such as the "former library" and "near the approach (two torii gates)".

Experimental performance, conducting related events

The concept of the exhibition will be expanded and exhibiting artists will hold online events. The collaboration performance between the poet KANIE Naha and the sound artist HOJO Tomoko is the first attempt to be realized at this exhibition.

Efforts with citizen supporters

Volunteer members of the Saitama Triennale 2020 citizen supporters gathered to accompany the exhibition. Sometimes I collaborate with the artist's production, sometimes I read poetry with the artist, appreciate the work together, and have a cup of tea slowly. Participating supporters participated in the fieldwork of artists and played an active part in many situations, such as connecting with local communities.
