From “Bonsai” that has come to gain increasing popularity throughout the world; to “dolls” which reflect an intertwining of prayer, play, and aesthetics; the “manga” works of Kitazawa Rakuten who is recognized as the forefather of modern manga; and the railroads that have supported the development of Japanese infrastructure ‒this project serves to reveal the “back stories” concerning these four traditional cultures prided by Saitama via a series of photographs, and further attempts to introduce each of their hidden histories, narratives, and meanings through the performances of dancers.
Free newspapers as well as exhibitions are developed with the cooperation of The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, The Saitama city Iwatsuki Ningyo Museum, Saitama Municipal Cartoon Art Museum, and The Railway Museum
‒organizations that each strive to preserve and promote these four cultures.
Throughout the duration of Art Sightama and even after its closing, the “Hidden Art Sightama” project is anticipated to deepen our understanding of the culture of Saitama, as well as introduce the more profound and disclosed aspects of each culture as a means to broaden our of views of Saitama.
