Terri WEIFENBACH "Saitama Notes", Saitama Triennale 2020 / Photo: MARUO Ryuichi
Terri WEIFENBACH began working with photography in the 1970s, after completing her studies in painting. Her artistic practice focuses on nature that is found in familiar places such as flowers, plants, insects and birds, as well as the subtle events that occur in this world, enabling them to emerge in the form of fantastic landscapes.
This work consists of photographs the artist had taken over the course of her stay in Saitama during the cherry blossom season last year. Weifenbach, who turns her awareness to everything that surrounds her by not only focusing what is visible, but also through listening, smelling and expanding her sensibilities, selected her subjects while strolling around Minuma rice field, Minuma Nature Park, an d the nameless paths within the area, spending time resonating with these plac es. None of the landscapes captured by Weifenbach are the same, and make viewers aware of the cycle of time in which buds blossom and wilt, and the multi-layered nature of our natural ecology.
