HIRAKAWA Kota’s practice centers on painting. He engages in depicting contemporary society through confronting subjects such as the history of painting, war paintings, and historical painting. A key theme of his practice is "memory," and the expressions of memory that can only be inherited, shaped, and brought to attention through painting and art, while also contemplating acts of forgetting and lapses in memory.
His major solo exhibitions include “Island of Death (Continued)” un petit GARAGE (Tokyo, 2018), with participation in group exhibitions such as “Catastrophe and the Power of Art” Mori Art Museum (Tokyo, 2018).
