Allan KAPROW (1927-2006) is an American artist known as the Father of ‘Happenings.’ He was a cultural critic and educator who throughout his lifetime had taught and introduced production styles that incorporated intellect, concepts of utopia, politics, and improvisation to many young artists. After an early career as a painter having studied under Hans Hoffmann, from the late 1950s to the 1960s his practice shifted to interactive environmental art and participatory events that focused on daily activities and experiences in living space. His works continue to be exhibited and performed in the United States, and widely throughout the world.
