IIDA Masashige "double", Saitama Triennale 2020
Focusing on the theme of body, IIDA Masashige presents immersive film works projected at dome theaters and planetariums, which he creates in collaboration with Butoh dancers and choreographers.
Iida sensed unprecedented possibilities for film expression in the overwhelming immersion of planetariums that project films across a 360-degree dome space, and since 2001, has consistently presented video works from an artistic perspective in planetariums and other dome-shaped spaces.
Set in the “Space Theater” near Omiya Station, Iida works with Butoh dancer Kazuko Mogami who continues to explore the body through her advocacy of Primordial Butoh, and takes on the challenge to create a form of body-image expression from a completely new perspective that transcends frameworks of both film and theater. We welcome visitors to witness the “flowers” that come to emerge from the enticing tapestry of dance performed by humans and dolls.
