Franck BRAGIGAND"Restoration of the Daily Life - OMIYA Ward Office Building", Saitama Triennale 2020 / Photo: MARUO Ryuichi

Franck BRAGIGAND, who defines himself as a "realistic painter," critically interprets contemporary society through the items and trash in our mass consumption society, engaging in a practice that focuses on the concept of "restoration of daily life."
As opposed to creating something new, he paints on things that already exist in society, in particular objects and buildings that have aged and been forgotten or are no longer used. In doing so, he intends to bring about awareness and changes within the context of daily life.
On this occasion, the artist himself stayed in Saitama, and with the cooperation of volunteers, painted the ceiling, walls, and columns of the first floor entrance of the former ward office building, as well as the tables and counter that had been used there in colors inspired by the flowers of Saitama. The building that has fulfilled its role transforms into a space filled with color, as if blossoming for one last time.
This large-scale work is also anticipated to function and be utilized as a resting space for visitors.
